New Ultrasonographic Techniques for the Study of the Inferior Vena Cava to Guide Patient Management in Different Clinical Contexts

The echography of the inferior vena cava (IVC) by Ultrasound (US) registration is a fast and noninvasive technique to deduce many clinical information. It is largely used by clinicians operating in various specializations and in various clinical contexts, both in diagnostics and in patient monitoring.

This conference is focused on the many applications of the US investigation of the IVC. It is made up of three interdisciplinary parts. The first will discuss the noninvasive methods to study the IVC, comparing the state of the art clinical method with innovative US video processing techniques, developed as part of a recent research project. Such techniques are expected to be used in the near future thanks to the technological development of US systems, currently in strong growth. The second will offer an overview of the applications in internal medicine, emergency, nephrology and anesthesia. The last module will instead concern the use of this technology in the field of cardiology, in particular in heart failure (for congestion assessment). A further future application of this new technology will also be discussed: the estimation of arterial stiffness.

The online conference will have a fast pace, characterized by interdisciplinary interventions of short duration, getting straight to the point. The speakers have a heterogeneous background, which includes several clinical specialties and various branches of engineering.
