Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to introduce this Special Issue of our journal focusing on the intricate relationship between metabolic syndromes and cardiovascular events. Over the past decades, there has been a growing recognition of the profound impact that metabolic abnormalities can have on cardiovascular diseases. This Special Issue aims to explore and elucidate the complex interplay between metabolic syndromes and various cardiovascular events, including myocardial infarction, stroke, heart failure, arrhythmias, and sudden cardiac death.

Metabolic syndrome is characterized by a cluster of cardiovascular risk factors including hypertension, central obesity, insulin resistance, and atherogenic dyslipidemia, and poses a significant public health challenge worldwide. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome has been steadily rising in parallel with the global epidemic of obesity and sedentary lifestyles. Importantly, individuals with metabolic syndrome face a substantially increased risk of developing cardiovascular diseases, which remain the leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally.

Each component of metabolic syndrome is mechanistically linked to cardiovascular events through various aspects such as neurohormonal system activation, endothelial dysfunction, and increased inflammation, resulting in heart failure.

In this Special Issue, we assembled a collection of original research articles, review papers, and clinical perspectives that deal with various aspects of the association between metabolic syndromes and cardiovascular events. Our esteemed contributors offer insights into the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms linking metabolic abnormalities to adverse cardiovascular outcomes. Furthermore, they explore the implications for clinical practice, including risk assessment, prevention strategies, and therapeutic interventions.

The articles included in this Special Issue cover a broad spectrum of topics, ranging from basic science research elucidating molecular pathways to clinical studies examining real-world outcomes in diverse patient populations. Through these contributions, we aim to enhance our understanding of the multifaceted relationship between metabolic syndromes and cardiovascular events, ultimately paving the way for more effective strategies to mitigate risk and improve patient outcomes.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the authors, reviewers, and editorial staff who contributed to the creation of this Special Issue. It is our sincere hope that the insights shared within these pages will inform and inspire future research endeavors aimed at addressing the formidable challenge posed by metabolic syndromes in the realm of cardiovascular health.

We invite you to explore the contents of this Special Issue and join us in advancing knowledge, promoting collaboration, and ultimately improving the lives of individuals affected by metabolic syndromes and cardiovascular diseases.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Metabolites is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
