Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Emerging contaminants are a large group of chemical compounds found in the environment due to regular human activities such as domestic, agricultural, and industrial processes. These pollutants' persistence and long-range mobility have harmful consequences for ecosystems and human health, even at low concentrations. Over the past decades, anthropogenic compounds such as drugs, pesticides, endocrine disruptors, and dyes in the environment have become a global issue of increasing concern. As a result, there is a pressing need to treat these toxic pollutants via appropriate treatment options. Recently, many advanced processes have been developed to reduce environmental pollution. Therefore, we are pleased to announce the 2nd International Conference on Science, Engineering, and Advanced Technology (ICSEAT-2023), which is being organized by international scientists, academics, and researchers from different scientific areas along with the Association for Scientific Research, Development, and Innovation (ASRDI) and technical support. Scheduled for July 20-21, 2023, ICSEAT-2023 will be held 100% online.

The objective of the conference is to create an effective international forum for scientists, researchers, experts, academics, engineers, doctors, students, technologists, and industrialists to present their results and discuss the most recent innovations, advancements, trends, concerns, practical challenges encountered, and proposals regarding the issues related to the topics of the conference. The topics of interest for submission to ICSEAT-2023 include different. The ICSEAT-2023 is dedicated to providing a platform that creates a dialogue between industries and academic organizations while promoting technology transfer from research to industry. This international conference will also allow companies and institutions to present their products, services, innovations, technologies, and the results of their innovative research. All members of the scientific community, public/private laboratories, and industries worldwide are invited to participate in this event to take advantage of the opportunity to promote their research and share their results.

The conference will cover various topics related to innovative advanced processes and their environmental applications. We invite all the participants to submit original and scientific studies related to, but not limited to, the following topics:

  • Environmental and Green Processes
  • Science, Technology, and Sustainability Engineering
  • Water/Wastewater Treatment, Process Technology, and Recycling
  • Treatment of Polluted Air and Soil
  • New Nanomaterials for Processes
  • Electrochemical Oxidation Processes
  • Energy Analysis of Processes

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information on how to join the conference. Registrations with academic institutional email addresses will be prioritized.

Information concerning the submission of abstract(s), conference topics, registration, conference program, and other details is available on the official website of the conference: http://sciences-congress.com/

We hope that you embrace our invitation. We anticipate an energetic and dynamic scientific gathering. We look forward to welcoming you to the ICSEAT-2023, and we promise that it will be a rewarding and enjoyable experience!

Note: we will provide a 15% discount on APC for the participants of the 2nd International Conference on Science, Engineering, and Advanced Technology (ICSEAT-2023).

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Processes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

Micropollutants belong to various groups of chemicals. One of the most diverse and large group of them are pharmaceuticals. The presence of pharmaceutical residues in wastewater poses a significant challenge to water quality and environmental health. This paper provides an overview of recent advancements in the removal of pharmaceuticals from water, focusing on various treatment processes and their effectiveness in eliminating micropollutants. Through a review of the literature, including studies on ozonation, UV irradiation, sulfate radical-based technologies, and photocatalytic processes, insights into degradation mechanisms and optimal conditions for their removal are synthesized. Additionally, with new legislation mandating the monitoring of selected micropollutants and the implementation of quaternary treatment in wastewater treatment plants, the paper discusses prospects for future research and recommendations for effective pharmaceutical removal. Key actions include conducting comprehensive laboratory and pilot trials, implementing quaternary treatment of wastewater, continuously monitoring water quality, investing in research and development, and promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing among stakeholders. By embracing these strategies, we can work towards safeguarding water resources and protecting public health from the adverse effects of pharmaceutical contamination. Full article
