Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The Guest Editor invites submissions to this Special Issue, entitled “Advanced in Disaster Risk Management”, on the subject area of safety.

Disaster risk management has been a broad subject matter since its conception. Key terms which are directly linked with this issue, in addition to risk reduction, are resilience, sustainability, sustainable development, adaptation strategies, and policy today. Disaster risk reduction is an important aspect of social and economic development and is essential if development is to be sustainable for the future.

To achieve the disaster risk reduction goal, the application of integrated disaster risk management focused on building resilient communities is required. In addition, progressive ICT, geoinformation technologies, and other decision support (DSS) tools help to achieve this goal.

Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Natural and man-made disasters;
  • Integrated disaster risk management;
  • Risk assessment including the following risk components: susceptibility, vulnerability, exposure, and resilience;
  • Progressive ICT, geoinformation, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and other DSS technology applications in disaster risk assessment and management;
  • Applications of remote sensing, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), and other mobile geoinformation technologies in disaster risk management;
  • Situational and public awareness;
  • Strengthening resilience and coping capacities;
  • Building a sustainable society, economy, and environment;
  • Risk reduction policies and adaptation strategies.

This research focuses on proposing a framework based on an analytic hierarchy process (AHP) for the selection/evaluation of managers in the field of asset management. A hierarchical structure is constructed, encompassing the set of competences under the role of risk management and performance improvement of the Institute of Asset Management’s (IAM’s) competences framework. It also describes the AHP implementation and illustrates the entire process with an example that uses IAM competences as model criteria. A sensitivity analysis is also carried out to confirm the robustness of the proposed methodology. As per the findings, the AHP was proven to be a usable and reliable method in selecting the most appropriate asset manager. Therefore, it can help organizations to plan and develop the competences they need to meet current and future needs. This study is among the few studies that focus on competence requirements for people working in asset management. As such, a novel approach for selecting managers in the field of asset management is proposed by this study. Full article
