Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The Internet is evolving from a communication platform for conventional IT appliances into the Internet of Things (IoT), increasingly interconnecting many assorted devices and sensors. IoT devices are inexpensive and can be constrained in terms of energy, bandwidth, and memory.

It is a proven fact that the implementation of IoT ecosystems brings a significant amount of tangible benefits to both users and companies such as smart cities, smart homes, cyber-physical systems, etc. However, it is important to bear in mind that both IoT and other related paradigms, fog computing, edge computing, cloud computing, etc. are exposed to a high number of possible threats. In part, this comes from a large number of unsecured IoT devices with many security vulnerabilities. For example, many vulnerable IoT devices that have been infected with malware have subsequently become embedded in large botnets, resulting in devastating DDOS attacks. Therefore, society must ensure the security of such IoT ecosystems in these times before, during, and after an attack.

This Special Issue will collect contributions by leading researchers, both from academia and industry, showing the latest research results in the field of IoT monitoring, security, and privacy, and provide valuable information to researchers as well as practitioners, standards developers, and policymakers. The issue will focus on the research challenges and issues in IoT security. Manuscripts regarding novel algorithms, architectures, implementations, and experiences are welcome. Topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Secure protocols for IoT devices
  • Case studies of malware analysis in IoT environments
  • Clouds, IoT, Edge, and Fog monitoring and forensics
  • Security diagnosis tools for IoT devices
  • Trust frameworks and secure/private collaboration mechanisms for IoT environments
  • Secure management and self-healing for IoT environments
  • Operative systems security for IoT devices
  • Threat and vulnerability detection in IoT, Cloud, Edge, and Fog environments
  • Anomaly detection and prevention mechanisms in IoT networks
  • Deep Learning and AI for security
  • Testbeds and experimental facilities for IoT security analysis and research
  • Security and privacy solutions tailored to specific
  • Secure Methodologies for emerging technologies
  • Secure elements (TPM, TEE, SGX, ARM, etc.) for IoT, Edge, and Fog
  • Human aspects in IoT cyber-security
  • Experimental, observational, and case study results

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
