Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Radio frequency energy harvesting has recently become one of the most favorable technologies to energize low-power electronic devices from the large amount of ubiquitous electromagnetic energy in the atmosphere. This potentially lowers the cost of a system by eliminating the need for batteries and power supply resources.

The rectifying antenna (so called rectenna) is the key component of an RF energy harvester having an almost unlimited lifetime (unlike batteries). In an increasingly mobile world with human beings attached to electronic gadgets, from a safety and health point of view, exposure to rectennas is most likely harmless. That explains the huge interest in rectennas for wireless body area network (WBAN) applications such as healthcare systems, sports monitoring, ambient intelligence, personal entertainment, and military services. Such rectennas would therefore allow continuous communication with personal monitors/remote beacons through Bluetooth/4G/WiFi.

The purpose of this Special Issue is to provide an update on the recent research advancements in rectennas for WBANs covering narrow/multiple/wide/ultra-wide ranges of frequencies. Original research contributions as well as high-quality review papers are encouraged. The scope of this Special Issue includes, but is not limited to:

Energy harvesting and wireless power transfer for WBANs;

Rectennas for body-centric wireless networks;

Wearable rectennas;

Rectennas for on- and off-body communications;

Adaptive (frequency adjustable) rectennas;

Narrowband, multiple-band, wideband, and ultra-wideband (UWB) rectennas;

Flexible rectenna;

Passive/active rectennas;

RF-to-DC rectification

Dosimetry and exposure assessment.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
