Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Human–computer interaction (HCI) is concerned with the joint performance of tasks by humans and machines; the structure of communication between human and machine; human capabilities to use machines; algorithms and programming of the interface itself; engineering concerns that arise in designing and building interfaces; the process of specification, design, and implementation of interfaces; and design trade-offs.

Multi-agent systems (MAS) can be regarded as an assemblage of self-contained problem-solving systems capable of autonomous reactive, pro-active, and social behavior. It applies several complex methods to adapt to new behaviors needed to achieve the intended objectives. MAS entails agents (mostly software programs that characterize actors), environments, and interactions. Other key concepts of MAS are coordination and control; reasoning and planning; and learning and adaptation.

This Special Issue (SI) on “Multi-Agent-Based Human–Computer Interaction” will integrate MAS and HCI where the science and technology of sensors are at the core of the proposal. The papers submitted to this SI must highlight multi-agent-based technologies and solutions centered around the use of intelligent sensors and sensor networks in current and emerging applications in human–computer interaction.

Topics of interest include (but are not limited to) the use of sensors for the following:

  • Coordination and control in multi-agent-based human–computer interaction.
  • Reasoning and planning in multi-agent-based human–computer interaction.
  • Learning and adaptation in multi-agent-based human–computer interaction.
  • Multi-agent-based human–robot interaction.
  • Human–agent interaction.
  • Multi-agent-based multimodal interaction.
  • Multi-agent-based social interaction.
  • Multi-agent-based virtual and augmented human–computer interaction.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sensors is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
