Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The manufacturing sector is facing numerous challenges owing to competition, technological advancement, automation, and the dynamism of production environments. Accordingly, the manufacturing sector is increasingly being asked to proactively manage uncertain and unstable situations due to global supply/demand changes, cyberattacks, the onset of geopolitical risks, raw material and energy price volatility, and pricing. These factors provoke companies to design and implement new frameworks and models to proactively and consciously address emerging risks in order to assure both high performance and worker safety. In addition, the potential environmental, social, and economic impacts of industrial processes and risks must not be neglected so that the effective development and management of sustainable manufacturing are also paramount in the future. Therefore, risk management greatly challenges the ability of managers to generate successful outcomes through the systematic control of key risk factors.

Original research articles and reviews on theory, methods, applications, and case studies are welcome. Potential topics may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manufacturing risk management via qualitative and/or quantitative approaches;
  • Enabling technologies of Industry 4.0 for risk management and performance evaluation;
  • Emerging risks in manufacturing environments (causes and potential solutions);
  • Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for risk management (identification, selection and implementation);
  • Best practices for risk management in manufacturing;
  • Decision making for risk analysis.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.
