Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

According to the seventh goal of the 2030 Agenda (United Nations. Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, 21 October 2015). The implementation of such an ambitious agenda for global development is not possible without an even more ambitious agenda for a global infrastructure development program. This agenda would have to be more ambitious in its commitments and resource availability, as a global sustainable development requires a global infrastructure development program.

Critical infrastructure, such as water, electricity, and gas supply systems, plays a strategic role in any development program, local or global. Designing, constructing, running and managing CIs with the goal of global sustainable development is indeed a complex a complicated issue. As a variety of potential issues should be considered, such as resource availability (financial, technological, human and raw materials, environmental, and geopolitical). Raw material resources and depletion is a real concern for global critical infrastructure development programs. The proper operation of the critical infrastructure (CIs) requires resources constantly, and the priority is to provide residents with services, in accordance with the law. A holistic approach to the problem includes the comprehensive management of the CI in the context of Man, technical systems, and the environment, as well as safety and health. In this Special Issue, theoretical, methodological, and practical studies, as well as reviews related to the discourse on global sustainable development and global critical infrastructure development programs in different sectors are invited to contribute. Research areas are not limited to mentioned issues.

The SI will encompass a broad range of subjects, from equitable water resource allocation to soil substrates, sustainable energy generation, and the interplay between water and public health. With a keen eye on the global water crisis exacerbated by factors like climate change and population growth, this research employs advanced technologies such as computational modelling and data-driven analyses.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
