Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The Built Environment is pivotal in addressing future challenges raised by climate change. It is responsible for a significant share of GHG emissions but provides an ecosystem of assets and services essential to modern life.

Academics, practitioners, and policy-makers struggle to find the technical, economic, and social solutions and processes to increase the sustainability of the built environment. These solutions and processes often involve a multidisciplinary approach, bringing together industry, research centres, and decision-makers to design, implement, and roll out successful initiatives.

This Special Issue intends to provide a set of contributions with practical implications for improving the sustainability of the built environment. Unlike previous collections, this Special Issue will focus on the design, demonstration, and/or implementation of practical contributions for the built environment subsystems: buildings, roads, water supply, energy, waste management, etc.

This includes, but is not limited to, the following subtopics:

  • Decision-making and methodological improvements to evaluate sustainability (LCC, LCA, CBA, MCDA, etc.)
  • Nature-based solutions, green infrastructure, and biodiversity in cities
  • “Green” financing and “green” procurement models
  • Policy-making and subsidies
  • Digital tools
  • Sustainable construction and circularity

We look forward to receiving your contributions. Please feel free to contact the Guest Editor to suggest additional topics and/or share your ideas for contributions.

All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
