Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

With rapid industrialization and urbanization, organic pollutants continue to accumulate, leading to increasingly prominent environmental issues. The sustainable treatment of organic pollutants has become a focus of global attention. Microbial degradation technology is receiving increasing attention due to its efficiency and environmental friendliness, i.e., microbial degradation not only effectively degrades harmful substances but also converts them into environmentally friendly products. Therefore, research on sustainable treatment methods for organic pollutants and the role of microorganisms in this process is crucial for achieving environmental sustainability.

This Special Issue aims to report on the latest investigations of the pollution status and hazards of organic pollutants in some typical environments such as farmlands, rivers, and coastal wetlands; explore the latest advances in the field of organic pollutant management; and focus on the application of microbial degradation technology in environmental sustainability. We invite researchers, scholars, and practitioners to submit original research papers and review articles on relevant topics to jointly explore the frontier issues in the field of organic pollutant management and promote the integration of environmental protection and sustainable development.

Possible topics include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Pollution characteristics and evolution trends of organic pollutants in typical environments;
  • Environmental behaviors and toxic effects of organic pollutants in different environmental media;
  • Efficient degradation bacteria screening from various habitat sources of pollutants;
  • Mechanisms of microbial degradation of organic pollutants;
  • Techniques to enhance microbial degradation capabilities;
  • Construction and application of composite degradation bacterial communities;
  • Microbial degradation technologies in wastewater treatment;
  • Application of biofilm technology in organic pollutant treatment.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
