Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In the process of industrialization, the generation of a significant quantity of electronic waste and industrial solid waste, which contains valuable resources such as steel, non-ferrous metals, precious metals, plastics, and rubber, presents a promising opportunity for resource recovery. By recycling these valuable metals and materials while reducing the reliance on primary resources, we can effectively address both the scarcity of resources and environmental pollution.

With the rise of the new energy vehicle industry, as well as the development of storage technologies for renewable energies, such as solar and wind energy, the demand for lithium-ion batteries is rapidly increasing. Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) plastics not only pollute the environment but are challenging to treat in an environmentally friendly manner. Therefore, with the advent of the industrialization of LIB recycling, exploring more efficient, economical, and environmentally friendly recycling technologies is imperative.

Our aim is to promote the treatment, disposal, and management of urban mineral resources, reduce pollution and carbon emissions, and achieve sustainable development. The theme is to encourage researchers to publish their experimental, computational, and theoretical research relating to the recycling of electronic waste, industrial solid waste, and mineral resources.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  1. Recycling of waste lithium-ion batteries;
  2. Recycling of waste circuit boards;
  3. Comprehensive utilization of red mud resources;
  4. Steel slag treatment and resource utilization technology;
  5. Valuable metals from coal-based solid waste;
  6. New technology for reusing magnesite tailings.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
