Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

CSR is a term that has been in use for over seven decades; for the purpose of this Special Issue, it is defined as business action for sustainability. Over the years, CSR/business action for sustainability has taken on different angles; for example, in the 1960s, there was a greater emphasis on labor rights. At present, climate risk is the key consideration for many businesses. There are also other factors related to business action for sustainability that are important to consider. These include social factors such as the impingement of business on human rights.

At present, more than ever before, there is an increasing urgency to address business action for sustainability, specifically, its effectiveness in the impacts and inclination to tackle key social and environmental challenges. Critical perspectives on business addressing sustainability challenges are even more necessary at this crucial point in human history.

The aim of this Special Issue is twofold: (a) to provide critical perspectives on business/organizational action (or inaction) for sustainability and (b) to highlight meaningful and impactful business action for sustainability and the organizational addressing of environmental and social challenges.

Original research articles and reviews are welcome. Research areas may include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Business/organisational action for sustainability: over the years, how in sync (or not) has this been with changing social and environmental challenges;
  • Various critical perspectives: a multitude of perspectives are expected, based on various social and environmental challenges created/ contributed to, by business/organisations.
  • Positive action by business/organisations: discussions of outputs/outcomes and impacts, for example, the development of sustainability linking technology and its application to address environmental/social challenges.
  • Accountability perspectives: case studies/policy analyses/analyses of legal cases relating to business social and environmental impacts.

I look forward to receiving your contributions.
