Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Over the last 30 years, increasing attention has been paid to understanding the presence and impacts of contaminants of anthropogenic origin on the different environmental compartments. There is now widespread recognition of the necessity to study and monitor the fate, behavior, and occurrence of such pollutants for minimizing environmental exposure and protect human and animal health respectively. Sensitive and effective analytical methods to evaluate the extent of the risks posed by the plethora of various anthropogenic contaminants are required. In addition, novel, green approaches should be employed so that the whole processes keep pace with sustainable models. In this context, this Special Issue focuses on the current chemical trends in environmental pollution, including new analytical challenges, monitoring of multi-class emerging contaminants, and sustainable environmental management and future perspectives. Hence, authors are strongly encouraged to submit their manuscripts about all aspects of chemical environmental pollution and its effects on ecosystems and human health, based on a testable hypothesis and reporting on results from original and novel research to contribute to filling critical knowledge gaps related to environmental pollution at a regional or global scale. The research areas could be related to (a) occurrence of various emerging contaminants and their potential ecological and human effects (b) novel purification technologies for applications to water, air, soil ecosystems, (c) new techniques for the assessment of environmental occurrences, transport, behavior, and effects of pollutants within the environment, (d) ecological applications or conservation, and (e) waste management and valorization. Hopefully, your contribution to this Special Issue will enhance the understanding of recent trends in environmental pollution with the view to foster initiatives of sustainable-based applications.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Sustainability is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
