Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

As the world grapples with the dramatic impact of COVID-19 on the tourism industry around the globe, there are increased calls to restore confidence in tourism, making the tourism industry more resilient once international mobility resumes, as well as more sustainable. Looking ahead with optimism, innovators, leaders, researchers and entrepreneurs are driving tourism’s transformation. Tourism has been widely considered in relation to the global sustainability movement, notably toward achievement of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Yet, the turmoil of current times supports reconsideration of innovation in tourism and sustainability. With tourism continuing to be seen as a driving force towards economic growth, inclusive development and environmental sustainability, how are global issues of sustainability being incorporated into tourism innovation and transformation? What are the trends, topics and challenges of tourism innovation from market, organizational, technological, local community and economic and social growth perspectives?  This Special Issue aims to become a forum for the advancement of consideration of innovation towards sustainable tourism for our changing times. Papers that consider issues of critical perspectives such as climate action, peace and justice, leadership, governance, partnerships, technological advancement, gender, culture, tourism and hospitality work, research and education will be particularly welcome. Exploratory, empirical or conceptual papers are invited that contribute to the (re)consideration of tourism innovation. Multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary contributions are also encouraged to shed new insights into tourism innovation and the SDGs. Papers on all aspects of tourism, hospitality and supporting services and sectors will be considered.
