Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to invite you to submit your work to a Special Issue of Energies on the topic "Advanced Distributed Control and Optimization for AC/DC Microgrids."

The reliability and affordability of energy rely on the optimal operation of distributed energy resources, storage devices, and loads. Recently, researchers have made great efforts to tackle significant reliability problems by developing distributed algorithms and integrating new computation resources, communication, and advanced control technologies to microgrids' operation. The integration of these distributed algorithms has raised new emergent opportunities and challenges related to the complexity and the heterogeneous nature of microgrids. Distributed control systems and optimization algorithms are more suitable in the context of distributed systems and have the advantages of being flexible, scalable, and easy to implement. However, due to their distributed nature, they are prone to communication problems such as communication delays, data packet drops, and communication link failures, and are vulnerable to adversary cyber and physical attacks.

This Special Issue aims to promote high-quality research on microgrids' control and link microgrids challenges with the most recent theoretical advances in the distributed control systems and optimization algorithms. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Distributed energy and power management of DC and AC microgrids
  • Distributed robust control of microgrids with mitigation of communication problems such as communication delays, data packet drops, and communication link failures
  • Stochastic control of microgrid systems with high penetration of renewable energy resources
  • Stochastic optimization of microgrids
  • Distributed state estimation
  • Detection, isolation, and classification of cyber-physical attacks in microgrids
  • Self-healing and self-recovery of microgrids
  • Modeling and simulations of DC and AC microgrids
  • Data-driven decisions in microgrids optimization and control

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
