Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Obesity, diabetes, and other metabolic diseases have reached epidemic proportions worldwide, threatening human health and posing a significant socio-economic burden. Exercise aids in weight management, improves body composition, and enhances metabolic health. It also helps in regulating blood glucose levels, thus reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes. For this Special Issue, we discuss the interconnection between exercise, physical activity, obesity, and metabolic disorders such as diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Despite the clear benefits of regular exercise, the global prevalence of physical inactivity is high, contributing to the obesity epidemic and associated metabolic diseases. Therefore, this Special Issue aims to highlight the importance of exercise interventions to promote physical activity and improve overall health.

We welcome different types of articles, including original research articles, clinical trials, reviews, and perspectives. The topics of interest for the Special Issue include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • The impact of different types of physical activity on obesity and metabolic diseases;
  • The role of exercise in preventing childhood obesity and reducing the risk of metabolic diseases in older adults;
  • The correlation between sedentary lifestyle and metabolic syndrome;
  • Metabolic diseases and weight loss strategies: combining exercise and dietary changes;
  • The impact of exercise on gut microbiota in obesity and metabolic diseases;
  • The effects of exercise on different metabolic diseases (such as type 2 diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, etc.);
  • The impact of obesity on cardiovascular health: can exercise help?
