Exploring Marine-Derived Natural Products for Developing Drugs with Anticancer Effects

In the quest for novel cancer therapeutics, the exploration of marine-derived natural products has gained considerable momentum. The Earth's oceans are teeming with a rich biodiversity of marine organisms, many of which produce biologically active compounds that have demonstrated potent anticancer properties. In recent decades, thousands of research articles have been published which provide an insightful overview of the drug discovery efforts aimed at harnessing the potential of these marine-derived compounds to combat cancer. Through rigorous pharmacological screening and innovative research approaches, scientists are uncovering a treasure trove of compounds with the capacity to disrupt cancer cell growth and survival. This burgeoning field not only offers new hope in the fight against cancer, but also underscores the importance of preserving marine ecosystems for future drug development.

This Special Issue invites original research articles and reviews that delve into the world of marine-derived natural products which holds the promise of groundbreaking cancer treatments. Potential themes include the following:

• Isolation of novel compounds from marine sources with potential anticancer activity;
• Biotechnological development for the production of marine anticancer agents;
• Determination of anticancer mechanism of action of marine natural products;
• Sustainability studies for the protection and maintenance of natural marine sources;
