IEEE cyberSciTech/PICom/DASC/CDBCom 2021

Cyberspace, the seamless integration of physical, social, and mental spaces, is developing quickly and becoming an integral part of our society, ranging from education and entertainment to business and cultural activities, etc. There are, however, a number of pressing challenges, such as human-control, accessibility, safety and trust, associated with the cyberspace. For example, how do we strike a balance between the need for strong cybersecurity and preserving the privacy of ordinary citizens?

To address these challenges, there is a need to establish new science and research portfolios that incorporate cyber–physical, cyber–social, cyber-intelligent, and cyber-life technologies in a cohesive and efficient manner. This is the aim of the IEEE Cyber Science and Technology Congress (CyberSciTech). IEEE CyberSciTech has been successfully held in Auckland, New Zealand, in 2016; in Orlando, USA, in 2017; in Athens, Greece, in 2018; in Fukuoka, Japan, in 2019; and online due to COVID-19, hosted in Canada, in 2020.

In 2021, we will continue to offer IEEE CyberSciTech with the aim of providing a common platform for scientists, researchers, and engineers to share their latest ideas and advances in the broad scope of cyber-related science, technology, and application topics. In addition, this is also a platform to allow relevant stakeholders to get together, discuss and identify ongoing and emerging challenges, in order to understand and shape new cyber-enabled worlds.

Over the last fifty years, computational intelligence has evolved from artificial intelligence, nature-inspired computing, and social-oriented technology to cyber–physical integrated ubiquitous intelligence towards Pervasive Intelligence (PI). The IEEE International Conference on Pervasive Intelligence and Computing is intended to cover all kinds of these intelligent paradigms as well as their applications in various pervasive computing domains. PICom-2021 is the conference on Pervasive Intelligence and Computing, which was previously held as PCC (Las Vegas, USA, 2003 and 2004); PSC (Las Vegas, USA, 2005); PCAC (Vienna, Austria, 2006, and Niagara Falls, Canada, 2007); IPC-2007 (Jeju, Korea, December 2007); IPC-2008 (Sydney, Australia, December 2008); and has run since 2009 under the name PICom. It aims to bring together computer scientists and engineers to discuss and exchange experimental and theoretical results, works-in-progress, novel designs, and test-environments or testbeds in the important areas of Pervasive Intelligence and Computing.

As computer and communication systems, as well as other systems such as Cyber–Physical Systems (CPS), the Internet of Things (IoT), and Autonomous Robotic Systems, become increasingly large and complex, their dependability and security play a critical role in supporting next-generation science, engineering, and commercial applications. It remains a challenge to design, analyze, evaluate, and improve the dependability and security of a trusted computing environment. Trusted computing targets computing systems as well as services that are dependable, secure, protectable, predictable, traceable, controllable, autonomous, and sustainable.

At the same time, the increasing scale and complexity of systems call for the autonomic computing paradigm, which meets the requirements of self-management, and autonomous systems. Trusted and autonomic computing/autonomous systems need synergistic research efforts covering many disciplines, ranging from the natural sciences to the social sciences. They require scientific and technological advances in a wide variety of fields, as well as new software, architectures, and communication technologies that support the integration of the constituent technologies.

The IEEE International Conference on Cloud and Big Data Computing is a premier forum for researchers, practitioners and developers who are interested in cloud computing and big data to explore new ideas, techniques and tools, as well as to exchange experience. Besides the latest research achievements, the conference also covers innovative commercial data management systems, innovative commercial applications of cloud computing and big data technology, and experience in applying recent research advances to real-world problems.
