Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Antimicrobial resistance, which compromises the effectiveness of antimicrobials and increases the risk of microbial infections, is currently a pressing global public health threat. Notably, Gram-negative bacterial species, such as Enterobacterales, Pseudomonas, and Acinetobacter, possess a high propensity for acquiring multidrug resistance, and infections with these multidrug-resistant clones lead to refractory or exacerbated disease conditions. Consequently, the mortality rate of severe infections, such as pneumonia and sepsis, tends to increase. The application of genomic approaches in antimicrobial resistance research has been notably developed in recent years. While understanding the emergence, mutation, transmission, and epidemiology have yielded significant benefits to humanity, much still remains to be done.

In this Special Issue titled ‘Genomic Insights into Antimicrobial Resistance in Enterobacterales, Pseudomonas and Acinetobacter’, our focus will be on a variety of topics related to the genomic understanding of these clinically important bacteria. Primary areas of interest encompass sequencing analysis of resistant isolates and microbiome samples from clinical and environmental settings; identification and functional characterization of resistance genes and mutations; pathogenomic analysis of resistant clones using in vitro and in vivo infection models. We encourage research that uncovers the complex genomic structures and novel resistance mechanisms, mobilomes facilitating resistance gene transfer, population genomics and epidemiology, and methodologies.

We will accept submissions of primary research reports, reviews, as well as meta-analyses. Please note that all submitted papers will be peer-reviewed.
