New Development in Extracellular Matrix Dynamics

Dear Colleagues,

The extracellular matrix (ECM) is a complex assembly of proteins and polysaccharides forming an elaborate network within tissues that is constantly undergoing remodelling. Nowadays, the ECM is no longer seen as only a static scaffold, due to sustained evidence regarding its assembly and degradation dynamics. There are several important processes which cannot take place without it, such as cell proliferation, survival, shape, migration and differentiation. It is becoming increasingly clear that stem cells depend on ECM-linked molecules with bioactive potential, which is specific and varies from tissue to tissue.

This Special Issue will cover the molecular aspects of normal ECM components and the dysregulation of the ECM in the development and progression of several diseases, from fibrosis to cancer.

Experts in the field are invited to send their contribution on any topic related to cells found in the ECM, matrix modelling and remodelling, basement membrane and ECM proteins in health and disease.
