Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) have opened new doors for the field of prosthesis and rehabilitation, enabling more precise, efficient, and personalized care for individuals with limb loss or dysfunction. The application of AI can lead to better outcomes in the design, control, and adaptation of prosthetic devices, as well as in the delivery of rehabilitation programs. This Special Issue aims to showcase the latest research, technologies, and innovations in the field of AI-assisted prosthesis and rehabilitation, and to explore the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. One area that is ripe for AI applications is prosthodontics, which deals with the design, fabrication, and fitting of artificial dental prostheses. AI can enhance various aspects of prosthodontics, from diagnosis and treatment planning to the fabrication and maintenance of dental prostheses. The use of AI in prosthodontics can improve the accuracy, efficiency, and patient outcomes, leading to a more personalized and effective approach to dental care.

Topics:

AI-assisted diagnosis and treatment planning: this topic will cover the use of AI in analyzing and interpreting clinical data, including radiographic images, intraoral scans, and patient records, to assist in the diagnosis and treatment planning of prosthodontic cases. This topic will cover the use of AI in the development of prosthetic devices, including the integration of sensors, machine learning algorithms, and neural interfaces to improve the accuracy, speed, and adaptability of limb prostheses.

AI-assisted prosthesis fabrication: this topic will cover the use of AI in the design and fabrication of dental prostheses, including computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) systems, additive manufacturing, and other emerging technologies that can improve the precision, efficiency, and quality of prosthetic restorations.

AI-assisted prosthetic maintenance: this topic will cover the use of AI in monitoring and maintaining dental prostheses, including the use of sensors, predictive algorithms, and other technologies that can detect and prevent complications such as fracture, wear, and loosening of the prosthesis.

AI-assisted rehabilitation: this topic will cover the use of AI in the delivery of rehabilitation programs, including virtual reality, robotics, and other technologies that can enhance the efficiency, safety, and efficacy of therapy.

Ethical and societal considerations: this topic will address the ethical, legal, and societal implications of AI in prosthesis and rehabilitation, including issues related to privacy, autonomy, discrimination, and bias.

The Special Issue on "Artificial Intelligence in Prosthesis and Rehabilitation" aims to showcase the potential of AI to revolutionize the field of prosthesis and rehabilitation, while also highlighting the ethical and societal considerations that arise from its use. We hope that this issue will stimulate further research and discussion on the topic and contribute to the development of new and innovative approaches to enhancing the quality of life for individuals with limb loss or dysfunction.
