2022 CiteScores – Released

The 2022 citation metrics have been officially released in
Scopus, the most comprehensive bibliographic database of scientific literature.

Below are highlights from MDPI's recent CiteScores, which measure the average number of citations per paper within a journal over the past three years:

  • 31 journals received their first CiteScore, taking the total number of journals with a CiteScore to 216.
  • 172 journals (80%) rank above average (in Q1 or Q2), with ten journals placed in the top 10%.
  • The average CiteScore rank percentile of all MDPI journals is 65 (using an average percentile for journals which are listed in multiple categories), exceeding 65% of all the journals in Scopus.

The following 80 MDPI journals (38%) are ranked in Q1 of journals (in at least one category):

CiteScore is now a widely accepted citation metric developed from Scopus data, calculated by dividing the total number of citations to peer-reviewed articles in a journal in 2019–2022 by the total number of peer-reviewed articles published in the journal over the same period. CiteScore complements other journal-related metrics such as SNIP and SJR.
